PERIOD PREACHER | BREAKING STIGMA: PERIODS & THE WORKPLACE IN KENYA 🩸

Let's chat about women's menstruation health and OUR workplace.

Labour day

Did you know that Labour Day in Kenya is more than just a day to celebrate workers? It's also an opportunity to talk about a crucial issue that affects many women in the workforce - menstruation!

As you probably know from other articles on our website, menstruation is a natural process that happens to people with a uterus every month. However, for many women in Kenya, managing their periods while at work can be quite challenging. One of the biggest hurdles is the lack of access to menstrual products.

Many women cannot afford to purchase pads or tampons, or they may not have access to them in their workplaces. This can be super frustrating and can make it tough to feel comfortable and confident while working.

Another struggle is finding the right facilities. Unfortunately, many workplaces in Kenya don't have separate toilets or facilities for women. Sharing facilities with male colleagues can be awkward, and it can be difficult to manage your period discreetly.

On top of that, there's still a lot of stigma and embarrassment around menstruation in Kenya. People are sometimes uncomfortable talking about it openly, which can make it harder to get support and advice when you need it.

So, what can we do about it you ask? We need to raise awareness and education around menstruation in Kenya! This could include workplace training sessions or public education campaigns aimed at breaking down the stigma around periods and providing accurate information about how to manage them.

We also need to invest in more menstrual products and facilities in the workplace to ensure that all women have the resources they need to manage their periods confidently.

Let's work together to ensure that all women in Kenya feel supported and empowered when it comes to their periods!

Happy Labour Day, everyone, Remember to be kind 🩸
